Real Experience

At the end of trial, the losing party has the opportunity to appeal. Our firm represents clients in appellate cases at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, North Carolina Supreme Court, and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. Harkey has previously clerked at the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the United States Attorney’s Office. An effective appeal begins with preparing a quality record, analyzing the facts, researching potential issues, and filing a petition. Next, our firm will articulate logical and persuasive arguments to the appellate court on your behalf.

Civil Appeals

In civil cases, an appeal can mean everything. We initiate and defend appeals from the trial level on a wide range of civil litigation matters. Our firm represents nonparties who have an interest in a particular case. In these cases, we draft amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs on behalf of the third-party.

Criminal Appeals

As a leading expert in complex criminal issues, our office seeks judgment modifications and new trials through the appellate process. Harkey is a board-certified specialist in State Criminal Law. In some cases, our firm may be able to file a writ of certiorari or motion for appropriate relief on your behalf to seek the result you deserve. Contact our office for a free consultation.
